February was in general a good month. I drew most days than not. I spent longer on individual images (rather than get bored and abandon) and I think it was during February that I started to get an idea of certain things like values, paper quality and how difficult faces are!

100 Faces No. 10.
I think this was the first time I really tried to do some proper shading to get some depth.

The big issue for me was the hair and getting something that resembled hair.

I found a video on hair and practised. This day was also a day when I really didnt want to draw but forced myself to do something.

100 Faces No. 12
The beginning of Feb was very much one day on, one day off! This drawing is one where I tried to draw the other bits to the face but gave up.

I remember spending more time on the hair than any other part of the face. I also started to realise how hard lips are.

I think this is the first time I felt comfortable shading the whole face to get a base tone and then add to it. I think this was also when I started to use a wider range of pencils, right up to 6B.

100 Faces No. 15
The first session was only 8 mins and one of those days when I forced myself to do a quick drawing because I was away on Sat and then came back on Sun and missed drawing altogether. I finished it on the Monday.

Other than the rather gargantuan nose and being a bit more positive around the values, this one came out ok. Also looks like a friend’s husband though he doesnt have a nose like this.

My one abiding memory of this that I still have a lot to learn about hair!

On a day of all the twos, I am not sure why this took me 40 mins given the lack of detail almost everywhere on this girl’s head and face!

The key thing is that this only took 10 mins and I deliberatly kept it short.

I just couldnt be bothered with the hair especially as I’d gone a bit wrong with the length of the face!

I broke away from the 100 Faces and thought of using a skull to try and understand some of the core shapes of a face that never change and the planes. The shading is a bit naff though as the reference image had a lot of depth.

This was the last day of month and I had missed the two previous days. It was the last day of the month and a bit busy. So I made a quick attempt by using a soft pencil and just trying to get the basics outline quickly and not spend too much time on shape, proprotions. I set a timer of 10 mins but then overan a little bit. The original aim was to draw more than one (and why it was smaller) but I then got distracted.
