Comment Policy

At the moment, comments are not allowed across posts or pages. I know that many many people would consider that approach some sort of blasphemy in the world of blogs and stuff – engagement is the master we are all a slave to.

However, that is likely to change in the future as I juggle real world stuff with this website. If and when that happens then there will be rules and stuff to a) make it a bit easier for me to manage, and b) have healthy comments.

The rules

  • The current plan is to have comments open at a certain time and for a certain period so that I can be at the desk for it.
  • You will need to be a registered user to be able to comment.
  • All comments will be moderated before being published.
  • Technically it is possible to block a number of links that people can post. This will be enabled initially to prevent any links but I will keep it under review.
  • Criticisms is feedback and that is fine but if you are going to criticise then try to be constructive with it – make a suggestion as to how that can be fixed. Whilst I don’t think I will block a comment that simply says “I think this is sh***” I may give you a cyber look of exasperation!
  • The underlying principle of comments is to be supportive and kind and be about your individual drawing journeys. How this pans out we shall see but the following immediately come to mind:
    • no swearing at other people commentating but feel free to swear at public figures especially politicians and celebrities but only if related to whatever point is being made
    • no name calling at other people commentating
    • no use of racist or discriminatory terms at anyone dead or alive – beware this is a changing landscape so make sure you are aware of what is current and if doubt, do not use it
    • no mocking of other commentators or being passive aggressive (though I am a bit dim in that area so I suspect others will need to point that out)
    • no trolling – you all know what that means and recognise it when you see it
  • Some other points:
    • only English is the language of comments and Google translate should be enough for your to get your point across
    • avoid text speak, overuse of abbreviations or acronyms and excessive use of emoticons : I know that you can make a whole sentence using them but this isn’t ancient Egypt so no
  • If I don’t like a comment, then I will not publish it and will take the time to explain why. The offending comment will not be edited by me. If I have to do that too many times then I will simply block you and where applicable remove you as a user. If there are technical ways of blocking IP address then that will also be used. However, I do reserve the right to kick you out without any reason or notice whatsoever.
  • Basically, don’t be a twat and you will be fine.
