Since the last update, I’ve added more drawings where I’ve slightly changed my approach bearing in mind, mindful learning.
I’ve now started to draw the 100 Faces smaller and subject to a time limit.
Smaller – because I hope it encourages focus on key parts of the head, face whereas the slightly larger one encouraged more time on each element. I still have to make sure that I get proportions right. Having done this a few times, and each of those faces being a bit too generic, I also need to make sure that I see and capture the distinguishing characteristics.
Time – there is a drawing and non-drawing reason. The drawing reason is to free the hand so my initial strokes are more confident and precise. I’ve noticed that this is improving. The non-drawing is that I am getting a bit bored of the 100 Faces and I am using that to incentivise me to improve and draw more heads. Month 3 is coming to an end yet I am only on face no. 40 which is not a lot when Jan to Mar is 90 days.
I’ve resisted switching to another set of non-face references because I’ve not got the time to put it together and there are still plenty of challenges left for the faces.
